After working hard and saving her money through the summer holidays AJ was able to buy herself two guinea pigs. After chatting to a breeder at the first show we went to, she decided to get a couple of the teddy breed. They are lovely big pigs and have a great laid back attitude to them.
Of the two she bought Big Frank is her favourite. He is over a year old and a really big chap (weighs in at just over a kilo). I think it was love at first sight for the both of them.
This past weekend AJ entered her first show with Big Frank.
He had been bathed and blow dried, his coat brushed and groomed. We washed between his toes and clipped his nails.
Big Frank was ready for his show!
The three of us set off early in the car to make the two hour plus drive to reach the venue. Me behind the steering wheel, AJ and Big Frank on the back seat.
When we reached the hall, Big Frank was given a number, put in a pen and we waited for the judging.
Big Frank is classed as an adult boar and so was judged against other adult boars in the competition.
Imagine our delight when we found a certificate on Big Franks cage. He had come second in his class!
AJ was also entered into the juvenile competition. This was towards the end of the day and we were getting anxious to start the trip back north. But we waited for Big Frank to be judged again and as soon as it was complete we moved him back to his carry basket.
As we were transferring our prize winner, a member of the club came over to us. Big Frank had been awarded first place in the Juvenile Coated and first place in the Juvenile Challenge.
A very happy little girl and guinea pig came home with three certificates and a big rosette!
